For twenty-three years, I was a nurse.

I loved caring for people, but quietly, I carried another dream with me — one I kept telling myself I’d pursue “someday.”

The next morning, I told my husband, Blake, that I wanted to do it.

I will always be grateful for that.

Now I’m sixty-three, and after eight wonderful years, it’s time for me to retire.

Not because something went wrong.

Because something went beautifully right — and I’m wise enough to know when it’s time to let go.
